EU hosting & data sovereignty — Famlo
Last updated:
Famlo was built EU-first. Every component of our infrastructure — from the database, through AI processing, to the mail server — runs under European jurisdiction in datacenters on European soil. This page tells you exactly where your family's data lives.
Application & database servers
Famlo runs on Hetzner Cloud, a German provider with datacenters in Nuremberg and Falkenstein (Saxony). Both the Famlo backend server and our self-hosted Postgres database (Supabase) sit physically in Nuremberg. Hetzner is headquartered in Gunzenhausen, Bavaria.
AI processing
Default models (mail extraction, memory) run via Mistral La Plateforme — a French AI company with headquarters and servers in Paris. Higher-stakes tasks (reply drafts, weekly summaries) go to Anthropic Claude via the European API endpoint. Both providers have a data-processing agreement (GDPR Art. 28) with us.
Mail server
Inbound mail (Inbox Triage) flows through our own self-hosted Postal mail server in the same Hetzner project in Nuremberg. Outbound transactional mail (confirmations, notifications) goes through Resend with an EU data-processing agreement and SES servers in Frankfurt.
What is not in the EU
Cloudflare DNS manages famlo.app — DNS lookups are technical metadata, not personal data. Cloudflare's legal entity is in the US; a standard DPA with EU clauses is in place. Otherwise: nothing. No Google Analytics, no Microsoft telemetry, no US cloud provider in the data path.
Transparency
We name every component, every location, every contract publicly. If you have questions or need a DPA, contact privacy@famlo.app.
